Expert advice on buses now available on our website

May 5th 2023

Expert-led guidance and advice on all aspects of planning for and managing a local bus network, across a variety of formats such as webinars, one-to-one support, technical notes and toolkits, has today been published on EEH’s website. This included topics as varied as:

● Fares and ticketing
● Data analysis, monitoring and evaluation
● Low cost and quick wins
● Building a strong case for bus priority
● Bus infrastructure guidance
● Demand responsive transport
● Rural bus hubs
● Funding mechanisms
● Collaboration between LTAs
● Marketing for bus networks
● Alternative and low-emission fuels

The advice has been made possible after England’s Economic Heartland, Transport East and Transport for the South East were awarded £300,000 of funding from the Department for Transport to support local transport authorities with the delivery of their Bus Service Improvement Plans (BSIPs) and Enhanced Partnerships (EPs), regardless of whether they had received BSIP funding.

Working with representatives from all three STBs and their 32 constituent LTAs, we identified, scoped and delivered a programme of 11 support packages. These support packages targeted skills and knowledge gaps for LTA officers that would allow them to more effectively and confidently deliver their BSIPs. Each support package was structured around realising specific objectives that related directly to the objectives and outcomes to be realised by the National Bus Strategy.

All the materials produced for the support programme are now available on the EEH website.
