Commenting on the Government’s announcement this morning, Chairman of England’s Economic Heartland Strategic Alliance and Leader of Buckinghamshire County Council, Martin Tett said:
“The Strategic Alliance is pleased that the Government has made today’s announcement on this critical issue for the UK economy and we welcome the fact that the airport sub-committee favours expansion at Heathrow.
“With Heathrow located on the doorstep of the Heartland area, its good news for improving our access to global markets, helping our businesses remain competitive and remaining an attractive location for inward investment.
“Clearly, we expect that sufficient safety and environmental protection measures will be included within the plans and that delivering improved public transport connectivity to the airport will be integral to the proposals as they emerge.
‘Investment in Heathrow Airport complements that planned for Luton Airport, in itself a key international gateway for the Heartland area, in particular for business aviation.
“This announcement fully supports the Alliance’s ambitions. We hope that the investment and supporting mitigation measures can be delivered as quickly as processes allow.”
