  • Central Bedfordshire leader Richard Wenham elected as chair of England’s Economic Heartland

    Cllr Richard Wenham is the new chair of sub-national transport body, England’s Economic Heartland.

    The leader of Central Bedfordshire Council was elected at EEH’s Strategic Transport Leadership Board on Friday, 24 September. The leader of Oxfordshire County Council, Cllr Liz Leffman, was elected vice-chair.

  • International journal publishes EEH colleague's research

    Research on step-free railway station access carried out by an EEH officer as part of his masters degree in transport planning has been featured in an international journal.

    EEH project lead, Antony Swift, examined the benefits of step-free access and its relationship with rail usage among ‘persons with reduced mobility’ (PRMs), and the wider benefits of railway station accessibility.

    Today the Chancellor announced the launch of a three year Spending Review which will set resource and capital budgets for 2022-23 to 2024-25 and conclude on 27 October 2021, alongside Autumn Budget 2021.

  • EEH strengthens governance structure

    England’s Economic Heartland’s governance structure has been strengthened following a review by the leaders of our local authority partners.

    Our two political-level meetings – the Strategic Transport Forum and EEH Leaders Group meeting – have now been consolidated into a single meeting, provisionally titled the ‘Strategic Transport Leadership Board’.
